The most pressing issue facing humanity today is climate change. Building construction and operation play a disproportionately significant role in exacerbating the adverse impacts of climate change, contributing to as much as 40% of the global CO2 emissions. Architects hold a pivotal position within the construction industry, guiding the flow of materials and championing innovative, sustainable building practices across various scales.
The driving force behind the Jeb’s Court project is the Client's aspiration to lead a carbon-conscious lifestyle in retirement, complemented by my unwavering commitment to pursuing uncompromising and high-impact climate solutions as the foundational principle for each project I am fortunate to be involved in.
Set within a pristine, snow-covered landscape, this Passivhaus-inspired project beautifully exemplifies harmonious coexistence with its natural surroundings. Taking cues from the majestic tree-scape that envelops it, the exterior materials reflect the layers of local pines. Dark bark tones on the exterior give way to soft, warm hues within when gently revealed. The careful placement of the home gracefully follows the natural slope, nestling beside an existing Jeffrey Pine, while strategically positioned windows frame captivating views of snow-covered branches just beyond. Notably, the undulations in the rear facade offer private and public vantage points, each capturing the breathtaking vistas of the mountains in the distance.
This home will be a testament to eco-friendly living in a challenging environment. It harnesses the power of nature, using advanced insulation, airtight construction, high-performance windows, and energy-efficient systems to maintain a comfortable interior temperature year-round, while minimizing energy consumption.
Reaching to the sky like the tree surround, Its occupants experience a deep connection to the changing seasons and the serene beauty of the landscape, all while living in an environmentally responsible and energy-efficient haven.
